so, someone in my band discord server sent this message, probably not expecting to open up almost 2 hours of my stream of consciousness:

i wanted to save these ideas somewhere other than the server, and periodically expand upon them as i learn more, so here are my responses

im reading the article linked in the tweet and it makes no sense, like its not actually saying anything , which is usually a sign of [we are saying something else that we cant make explicit] - what i mean by that is: there is no explanation as to why malaysian ppl would need to "prove their humanity" in the first place. in what context? and if its thru something like iris scanning, an in-person action, then why are we questioning if that person is human? this isnt an online verification where u cant see the person.

now, if they mean that ppl will be able to use this verification remotely & over the internet, it makes a bit more sense. like imagine if you needed to be fingerprinted for something official & you could do it at home with a scanner. okay fine. but this begs more questions than it answers. is it at-home technology? is it available to everyone? realistically what percentage of the population can even afford this tech? and if its being distributed regardless of means to afford it, is this actually a rouse to get test subjects for their tech, as well as fabricating consent for collecting biometric data?

like most other crypto-related endeavours, it reeks of bullshit & ulterior motives

heres the article, anyone with other thoughts pls feel free to add or challenge mine

okay yea, i figured my initial take is based on a lot of missing information, which i suppose the point of the article isnt "Everything You Need To Know About Worldcoin's Orb Project" , its just an update about its use in malaysia. however i still think its poorly written lol

ive answered one of my questions about if its at-home tech. answer: no
theyre public locations with multiple orb stations

sigh. let me find the tweet. its more relevant now than ever

im reading more about this bc im realizing this can lead to horrors unforeseen. like not to make anyone scared bc i think theres a good chance this will not become a required part of everyones life (but who knows) and if it does, we're still far enough out from that reality that we can be smart about acting against it. reading inbetween the lines.

we can actually get to a point with this "humanity verification" where you could be wrongfully punished for errors that result in the assumption that ur not human. i would imagine this would be thru arrest, fines, and/or blocked access to web services

once you procure a "World ID" thru biometric data it moves on to being a scrambled cryptographic key, like it basically turns into blockchain transfer of info
therefore completely anonymized & removed from the original Person they have Verified

who is to say this wont create a whole new specific usecase of trafficking or similar - coercing people into scanning their eye for you, giving you their ID

they have an extremely vague mention of how theyre gonna mitigate theft or transfer of credentials

an "effective check" , a "periodic process"
by what means?
whenever people use positive adjectives instead of actually explaining anything, be very skeptical. if the project is effective, you wouldnt need to use a word like that to convince anyone. just explicitly outline what it is. yeah. they are gonna try to push this.

i wonder how things like adversarial patches can play in here
theyre sort of for the opposite purpose, but lemme cook on this one. i gotta flesh out this thought. if anyone doesnt know what an adversarial patch is, theyre images that throw off AI's ability to identify things. so if you wear one on your clothes for example, you couldnt be identified/logged in public by any AI-based facial recognition software (For Security Measures! surely.........)
maybe less-so "facial" specifically, but like from afar the AI wouldnt recognize you as a person at all - it cant tell because the visual information of the patch is so confusing

for context as to where i was getting the screenshots outlining the verification plans, i started reading this twitter thread from an employee at OpenAI:
